Abstract

boilers are used in the steam generating systems in industries and in power plants systems, a large amount of the world energy consumption is being used in boilers however, a little improvement on the boiler efficiency will lead to saving a huge amount of fuels that are also lead to reducing CO2 emissions, this study describes a large amount of energy used in boilers, ways employed to evaluate their energy efficiency, losses of energy occurred in steam boilers and their causes also the ways of waste heat recovery for minimize the heat loss, by developping a simple mathematical model with Java program for calculation boiler efficiency, losses in the boiler, emission analysis and amount of heat consumed and used in the boiler, we could control the steam boiler performance, this model showed high accuracy with speed performance compared with other mathematical models in the market and it will help the staff involved to understand the importance of energy as being used in the steam boiler system, as well as the impact of their actions during the operation of the boilers, Also this model used for studying the most effective parameters which affected on the steam boiler performance, the model gave that the most effective parameters were the temperature of feed water, the temperature of the flue gases, the temperature of preheating air, the amount of excess air and the total dissolved solids in feed water.
Finally, a pre-feasibility study for improving the design of economizer to increase energy saving in the boiler.
