Abstract Background: Bipolar disorder is the most common chronic illness that appears, in adolescence or early adulthood and causes are major challenges that effect on patient’s quality of life. To restore patients’ life should enhance their physical, psychological, and social functioning. Aim: This study aimed at enhancement of quality of life among patients with bipolar disorder. Design: Aquasi experimental design and the study were conducted on a purposive sample of 40 patients with bipolar disorder. Setting: The study was conducted in the outpatient clinic of the Institute of Psychiatry at Ain Shams University. Data were collected using: 1) Interviewing questionnaire containing the following parts: A) Socio-demographic characteristics. B) Patients’ clinical data sheet. C) Patients’ knowledge about bipolar disorder. 2) Quality of life in bipolar disorder questionnaire. Results: There was a highly statistically significant difference between pre and post intervention as regards total dimensions of quality of life among patients with bipolar disorder. Besides, there was a positive significant correlation between their total knowledge and their total quality of life dimensions pre and post intervention. Conclusion: The implementation of the intervention program had statistically positive effect on the quality of life dimensions among patients with bipolar disorder and there was a highly statistically significant difference between pre- and post- intervention as regards their total knowledge. Recommendation: Designing a comprehensive nursing protocol focusing on the liaison role of the psychiatric nurse to facilitate psychosocial adjustment among bipolar disorder patients. |
