Abstract

Summary:
Recycling of plastic bottles is one of the most important activities available today to reduce the negative effects of this waste on the environment.
The recycling process offers many opportunities to reduce oil use and carbon dioxide emissions, as it reduces the amount of waste and also reduces environmental pollution.
Polyethylene terephthalate (PET) is a versatile material and has a wide range of applications such as clothing, acoustic panels, sportswear, agricultural nets, nonwovens, sheets and films, straps, engineering resins, food and beverage bottles, bottles, packaging materials, reinforcement in building construction, etc.
PET is recycled through a series of procedures such as collection, sorting, washing, granulating, drying, etc.
Recycled PET produced worldwide is used for basic fiber applications in the textile sector.
This study presents a comparison between fabrics made of virgin polyester yarns and recycled polyester yarns produced from plastic bottles before and after care process by:
- Using two different materials, (virgin and recycled polyester) to produce simple household fabrics.br>- Measuring properties of the produced fabrics, these are weight, stiffness, abrasion resistance, pilling, tensile strength, and Thickness.
- Measuring the same properties of fabrics before and after care processes (Washing, drying, and Ironing).
This study is presented in three chapters, the first chapter includes literature review, the second chapter is the experimental work which includes the specifications of yarns and fabrics used, the specification of the machine producing fabrics and the standard specifications of the tests, and the third chapter presents the results of laboratory tests of the produced fabrics.
This work aims, by a comparison of the performance properties of the fabrics used in the study, to determine the appropriateness of using recycled fibers from plastic bottles in household fabrics production.
from the results of this research we found that in general fabrics of 100% virgin polyester represents better results than fabrics with recycled wefts, but the difference is not much. The results indicates that recycled polyester from used bottles represents reasonable performance properties as household fabric products with low price, and could be also used for more different textile applications.
