Abstract

The World Health Organization (1994) has described ASD as group of conditions characterized by some degree of impaired social behaviour, communication and language, and a narrow range of interests and activities that are both unique to the children and carried out repetitively. ASDs start in childhood and tend to persist into adulthood. In most cases the conditions are apparent during the first five years of life (Omura et al., 2015).
The present study aims to assess the parents’ knowledge and attitude regarding their Autistic children.
This aim is achieved through the following objectives:
• Assessing parents’ knowledge regarding Autism children.
• Detecting parents’ reported practice provided to their children who suffering from Autism.
• Evaluating parents’ attitude toward their children suffering from Autism.
Results: The important finding that were obtained from the
Study can be summarized as follow:
Regarding to parents’ knowledge
• 50% of the studied sample had poor knowledge about the autism.
• 30% of the studied sample had average knowledge about the autism.
• 20% of the studied sample had good knowledge about the autism.
Regarding to parents’ practice
• 45% of the studied sample had a satisfactory level in total parents’ practice.
• 55% of the studied sample had unsatisfactory total parents’practice.
Regarding to parents’ attitude
• 30% of the studied sample had negative total attitude about autistic children.
• 70% of the studied sample had positive total attitude.
• The study finding that there was highly statistically significant relation between total knowledge and total practice of the parents of autistic children at p= .000**.
