Abstract

There was no statistically significant difference between cases and controls as regard plasma calprotectin level.
While, plasma calprotectin level showed a significant difference with increase in AV severity. The rise in plasma calprotectin levels was proportional to the increase in the severity of AV with a statistically significant difference between the study groups.
In addition, Plasma calprotectin level didn’t show a significant relation with site of AV, nor previous treatment.
Our study showed that the increase in AV severity was not affected by the difference in gender, onset of disease, nor disease duration. However, there was a significant statistical correlation between the increase in the age of patients and the decrease in the severity of acne, which indicates that AV is more severe in younger patients than older ones; consequently, the inflammation is more aggressive in younger patients.
The comparison between Tissue Calprotectin level in inflammatory lesions and Tissue Calprotectin level in non-inflammatory lesions was significant.
Also, The comparison between the Plasma Calprotectin level in patients’ group and Tissue Calprotectin level in inflammatory lesions was non-significant. However, the comparison between the Plasma Calprotectin level in patients’ group and Tissue Calprotectin level in non-inflammatory lesions was highly significant.
Tissue calprotectin level in both inflammatory and non-inflammatory lesions did not show significant difference with site of acne and degree of severity.
However, tissue calprotectin level in inflammatory lesions showed significant difference with previous treatment but this was not the case with non-inflammatory lesions.
These findings might provide evidence that Calprotectin can be used as a convenient inflammatory marker in AV.
