Abstract Onychomycosis is defined as a fungal infection of the nail that expands slowly and if left untreated leads to complete destruction of the nail plate. Onychomycosis has no tendency for spontaneous remission and should be considered as a problem with serious medical, social, and emotional extensions, not solely a cosmetic problem. We conducted this study on 40 cases to evaluate the efficacy of Qs-Nd:YAG laser in the treatment of onychomycosis divided to group A received Q-Switchd Nd:YAG laser only while group B received combined Q-Switchd Nd:YAG laser and topical antifungal (tioconazol 28%) solution, applied twice daily. All patients was subjected to Photography before and after every session of Treatment with Q-switched Nd:YAG laser. Also, nail scrapings for mycological culture and nail clipping for PAS staining before & after treatment. At the end of this study, there was a significant improvement in onychomycosis . Also, this study revealed that treatment with Q-switched Nd:YAG laser is effective in onychomycosis and better results could be obtained when the laser treatment is combined with topical antifungals. |
