Abstract Spiders are one of the most species-rich groups in the animal kingdom. They are found in a variety of habitats, from mountain tops to underground caves. The variety of species, each with its own particular ecological requirements, inhabit all kinds of terrestrial ecosystems. More than 48,248 spider species belonging to 116 families were described so far and many still waiting for discovery and description. This makes spiders an excellent group to survey when assessing the health of communities. In Egypt and to the best knowledge of the author, only 405 species belonging to 204 genera and 41 Families were described till the year 2019. |
