Abstract

The researcher has divided the thesis into three chapters: Chapter one will handle the Epic poets. The researcher will discuss the poet’s life, importance, and writings and how this has affected his depiction in art.
Chapter two will handle some Lyric poets, since some of them were depicted in art. The researcher will concentrate on the poets that have artworks in Hellenistic age, and will try to explain why some other poets weren’t depicted. As for some poets like Callinus of Ephesus, Tyrteaus, Mimnermus of Colophon, Theognis of Megara, Alcaeus and Terpander, did not have depictions in Hellenistic art.
Chapter three will handle the main Dramatic poets, as it is classified into two sections the first one will handle the Greek Tragic poets such as Aeschylus, Sophocles and Euripides, while the second section will handle the Greek Comic poets, such as Aristophanes and Menander. The researcher will discuss their lives, writings and how this affected their depictions.
The study ends with a conclusion followed by a Catalogue of the poets’ presentation in Hellenistic art.
