Abstract Alteration of thyroid profile in patients with breast cancer receiving chemotherapy after modified radical mastectomy has been noticed and discussed in literature. Causes of altered thyroid profile are still under investigations, multiple explanations include; chemotherapeutic induced cellular damage, the hypothalamus-pituitary-thyroid axis down-regulation, and decreased iodine intake. Screening of hypothyroidism and replacement therapy is not routinely required in patients receiving chemotherapy unless clinical manifestations appear on these patients. Proper evaluation and management are keys to maintaining the patient’s quality of life as well as optimizing the outcome of their cancer treatment. |
