Abstract

One of the most difficult challenges facing our society is how to preserve the environment. In the construction field, reducing the impact of construction wastes anddemolitions considered one of the important fields. One of those methods is to using demolitions andwastes as a recycled aggregates for concrete. This type of concrete is called recycled concrete ”RAC”, One of the benefits of using RAC is to conserve natural resources andget rid of the waste that needs large areas in a landfill. Recycled aggregate concrete ”RAC” is made from recycled crushed concrete, ceramics, andbricks from the waste resulting from the process of construction anddemolition. This concrete is considered as an alternative to conventional concrete.
The main aim of this experimental work is to study the feasibility of using recycled aggregates with high strength concrete to obtain high strength concrete cast using recycled aggregate ”RA-HSC” was studied. In this thesis, the main mechanical properties, as well as the behavior of reinforced high strength concrete using recycled aggregate beams, were studied. The main variables in this thesis are; recycled aggregate type (crushed concrete, crushed ceramic andcrushed red bricks compared to dolomite as natural coarse aggregates) andreplacement ratio (0, 25%, 50%, 75%, and100% of dolomite volume).
The conducted experimental program is divided into two stages. The first stage was performed to study the effect of using recycled aggregates as a replacement of natural aggregates to obtained high strength concrete using recycled aggregates ”RA-HSC”. Results drive in terms of compressive, splitting tensile, flexure andbond strengths. The second stage was performed to study the behavior of reinforced concrete beams cast using RA-HSC. Results drive in terms of initial cracking loads, ultimate loads, deflections, andcrack patterns.
Test results showed that it can production of high-strength concrete using recycled aggregate.
