Abstract

Objective: The aim of this study is to evaluate the effect of polishing procedures on the surface roughness and color stability of CAD/ CAM resin-ceramic materials after immersed in staining solutions.
Materials and methods: During delivery of all ceramic restorations, the dentist often needs to perform clinical adjustmentsThis increases the surface roughness of the restoration and could result in increased wear of opposing dentition and more stain accumulation, thus, affecting both the mechanical and optical characteristics of the material. Using Chair-side ceramic polishers can reduce treatment time by avoiding reglazing the prosthesis and the need for lab support. The efficacy of the ceramic polishing systems is a controversial issue in literature. Several studies reported that the final surfaces obtained with the polishing procedure are not comparable with the final reglazing surfaces. On the other hand, other authors have reported that the polishing systems exhibited the capacity of reaching surfaces similarly to those obtained after the glazing procedure. This study evaluates the effect of polishing technique on surface roughness and color stability of a new brand of hybrid ceramic CAD / CAM block .Results: A total number of 21 specimens were milled from hybrid ceramic Cerasmart CAD/CAM blocks. The specimens will be divided into three groups (n=7): group (C) control group samples of thickness 1.5mm, which didn’t receive any surface finish, Group(F) finishing specimens of thickness 1.5 mm, that were ground and group FP polishing specimens of thickness 1.5 mm, that were ground and polished using a chair side polishing kit. Conclusion: Higher color stability and less surface properties in Cerasmart restoration after surface finishing could be attained by polishing. The polishing procedure affects both the color and the surface properties. The color stability and surface roughness are correlated.
