Abstract HCV infection is a major cause of chronic liver disease, which can lead to the development of cirrhosis and leukemia (CHC). Egypt has the highest prevalence of C virus worldwide with 9% in cities and about 50% in urban areas. This study was carried out to illustrate the role of genetic polymorphism of the IL 28B gene on the response rate for patients with chronic C virus and treated with antiretroviral drugs. The fourth generation of C virus is the most prevalent and is responsible for nearly 90% of infections and is a major cause of chronic hepatitis and liver cancer and liver transplantation across the country. Genetic evaluation of IL28B Gene can be used to determine the type and duration of HCV treatment where it can support with important information for treatment decision making.
