المستخلص There is a long debate about the relationship between democracy and development. There is no consensus about this relationship. Some argue that democracy is good for development while others argue it is not. Some Studies support that democracy needs the development as a prerequisite. There is a view that combine between democracy and development as complementarity and synchronized process. On the Contrary, some scholars argue that there is no relationship between democracy and development. Each of these theories support their arguments with evidence and research. In this sense, we present this study to examine the effect of democracy on development. We assume that democracy has a positive impact on the development process through many mechanisms provided by an effective democratic system such as accountability, checks and balance, the rule of law, control of corruption and political stability. These mechanisms allow the process of the accumulation of physical capital (through encouraging investment and saving) and human capital (through improved health and education), all of which ultimately lead to development. |
