Abstract

Nanocomposite films of (PEO/CMC)/BaTiO3 were prepared via the solution casting method. The results of XRD technique depicted the semi crystalline nature for PEO/CMC which was largely reduced due to BaTiO3 loading. FT-IR spectroscopy showed the compatibility between the components of blend, PEO and CMC, through the formation of hydrogen bond and confirmed the interaction between the functional groups of blend, in particular C-O-C of PEO and COO- of CMC, and BaTiO3. from the UV/vis. absorption spectra, the sharp absorption edge in the UV region for the filled samples was red shifted and the optical energy gap (Eg) was calculated. The effect of BaTiO3 filler on the glass transition, melting and decomposition temperatures of the blend was investigated through DSC technique that confirmed the miscibility between the components of blend by the appearance of one glass transition temperature. from the AC conductivity results, the electrical properties were improved depending on temperatures, frequencies and the content of BaTiO3 within the polymeric matrix. This indicates the presence of charge carriers transported by hopping through defect sites attributed to increase in the number of mobile charge carriers. Further, the mechanism of AC conduction and its parameters had been studied. TEM micrograph revealed the cubic-shape for BaTiO3 with average size range 20-50 nm.
