Abstract

Recently, there has been a large investment in information and communication technology within the health sector. So, nurses must be aware of new technologies to be able to provide safe and competent care in a highly technical and digital environment. Aim: The present study aimed to assess the disposition of nursing personnel toward using information system at Port Said general hospital. Method: Descriptive research design was utilized with the total sample of 244 nursing personnel that consisted of 14 head nurses and 230 staff nurses. Tool of data collection: A personal characteristics data sheet for staff nurses and head nurses and self-administrated questionnaire sheet was used to assess the disposition of nursing personnel toward using information system. Result: The result revealed that 66.9% of staff nurses have positive disposition, followed by 28.2% have neutral disposition. Meanwhile, the lowest percent of them (4.7%) had negative disposition and 64.2% of head nurses have positive disposition, followed by 21.4% have neutral disposition. Meanwhile, the lowest percent of them (14.2%) had negative disposition. Conclusion: It was concluded that the majority of staff nurse’s and head nurse’s have positive dispositions toward using information systems, also there was a statistically significant difference between the dispositions levels of the two groups and all personal characteristics except gender. Recommendations: The findings pointed for upgrading nurses’ computer skills through providing services, educational program about computer and information system.
