Abstract

illness and death of children in developed countries. Hence it is important to control the risk factors to prevent deaths from ALRTI.
Bronchial asthma is a serious global health problem. People of all ages throught the world are affected by this chronic airway disease. The chronic airway inflammation is associated with airway hyperresponsivness that lead to recurrent wheezing, breathlessness, chest tightness and cough.
Bronchiolitis is an acute viral infection of lower respiratory tract, it constitute a public health problem in pediatric population worldwide. The American Academy of Pediatric have define bronchiolitis as ”a constellation of clinical symptoms and signs including a viral upper respiratory prodrome followed by increase respiratory effort in children less than 2 years of age”.
Hyponatremia is defined as plasma sodium concentration of less than 135 mmol/L and is one of the most common electrolyte dearrangment in both children and adult hospitalized with respiratory infection .It can result from defecit of sodium or an excess of free water..Aspecific association between respiratory illness such as bronchiolitis and asthma and increase circulatory levels of AVP has been documented.
The aim of this work was directed to evaluate frequency of hyponatremia in hospitalized children with bronchiolitis and bronchial asthma and the relation of respiratory chest infection with occurance of hyponatremia.
The study was conducted at pediatric department of Menoufia University Hospital from October 2017 to April 2018.
