Abstract

Safe patient care is the most important fundamental issue for medical institutions. patient safety is considered the cornerstone of quality healthcare. providing safe patient care is one of the significant challenges in health care environment. patient safety is a basic human right, and providing a culture of patient safety is the responsibility of all healthcare personnel, regulatory agencies, and governmental bodies.
patient`s safety has received increased attention in recent years, but mostly with the focus on the epidemiology of errors and adverse event rather than on practices that reduce such events. the national forum for quality measurement and reporting define a patient as a type of process or structure whose application reduce the probability of adverse events resulting from exposure to the health care system across the range of disease or procedure. the operating room is one of the most complex work environments in health care. compared with other hospital settings errors in the operating room can be particularly catastrophic and in some cases, can result in high profile consequences for a surgeon and an institution.
surgical care has been an essential component of health care worldwide for over a century surgery is often one of the therapy that can alleviate disabilities and reduce the risk of death from common conditions. while surgical procedures are intended to save patients` lives, unsafe surgical care can cause substantial patient harm
