Abstract Pedicled perforator flaps represent a very good solution for reconstruction of soft tissue defects of leg with exposed leg structures as bone, tendons, nerves or vessels, which cannot be closed primary, healed by secondary intention or being grafted, giving satisfactory results with good functional and aesthetic outcome and restoration of normal function and shape of the leg. Our study was done on 20 patients with different leg defects of various causes, 6 types of perforator flaps were used. 7 patients were treated by posterior tibial artery perforator flap, 7 patients by reversed sural perforator flap, 2 by peroneal artery perforator flap, 2 by lateral supramalleolar flap, 1 by anterior tibial artery perforator flap and 1 by medial sural artery perforator flap. Of 20 flaps, 14 flaps had no complications (70%), 4 flaps complicated by distal end congestion (20%), 18 flaps passed successfully (90%), and 2 flaps complicated by necrosis and failed to survive (10%). With high success rate of 90%, and low failure rate of only 10%. So pedicled perforator flaps are good, effective and versatile method for reconstruction of injured leg. |
