Abstract Salivary immunoglobulin A considers a natural defense mechanism in saliva. It has an important role in preventing bacterial adherence and penetration into the oral mucosal epithelium. It could help preserving the integrity of the oral surfaces. Aim of study: The aim of the present study was to assess the correlation between concentration of salivary Immunoglobulin A and health of gingival and periodontal tissues. Conclusion: Scaling and root planning is the mainstay of treatment of periodontal diseases, as it improved clinical parameter in-patient with gingivitis and chronic periodontitis. This study showed increased level of salivary IgA in patients with gingivitis and chronic periodontitis compared with the healthy controlled. |
