Abstract Summary Diabetic retinopathy and its complications like macular edema, hemorrhage ,retinal detachment or neovascular glaucoma considered one of the most important cases of visual loss worldwide. Diabetic macular edema is the swelling of the central part of the retina of the eye within 2 disc diameters of the center of the macula that lead to blurring of vision and gradual loss of vision specially with poor control of the blood sugar . Diabetic retinopathy and its complications can be diagnosed using fundoscopy , OCT , FFA and color vision tests. Color vision tests are easy non-invasive tests studying the color vision and the 3 responsible cones type that can differentiate 3 main colors : red , green and blue . Color vision insufficiency is the decrease in ability to differentiate between the colors or some colors that others can distinguish which may be either acquired or inherited and can be diagnosed by color vision tests like Ishihara, Farnsworth D-15,… etc. This study conducted 40 diabetic patients, half of them are IDDM and half are NIDDM, also half of them are males and the other half are females. All the patient subjected after fundoscopy and full examination to OCT and Ishihara color plates. Results was statistically valuable and significant to correlate between color vision defect with diabetic macular edema. |
