Abstract Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Acinetobacter baumannii are clinically significant opportunistic human pathogens, which are the main cause of nosocomial infections worldwide. They are commonly associated with bacteremia, septicemia, urinary tract infection, meningitis, skin, soft tissue infection and pneumonia. These bacteria are serious and difficult for treatment due to their intrinsic and acquired resistance to a wide range of antibiotics. In this study, 150 P. aeruginosa and 20 A. baumannii isolates were isolated from 530 patients suffering from different infections. Samples were taken from patients attending different hospitals including: Minia general hospital, Minia university hospitals and Minia chest hospital. Of the total number of isolates P. aeruginosa was the most prevalent organism in patients suffering from ear infections 68.4%, while A. baumannii was the most frequent pathogen isolated from patients attended in intensive care unit 7.9%. Antibiotic susceptibility pattern was carried out using different antimicrobial agents. The results revealed that P. aeruginosa are highly resistant to β-lactams. |
