Abstract

This study was designed to evaluate the effect of Grinded Pomegranate peel on some biochemical constituents in rabbits kept on high sucrose ration.Study lasted for three months and was carried out on a total of 80- male rabbits of 1300- 1600 gram body weight and about 50±10 days old that were divided equally into four groups (20 rabbits) per each group as follow:Rabbits were allocated into 4 groups as follow:- 1.First group (control): Twenty (20) served as control, kept on basal ration only.2. Second group (Stressed) : Twenty (20) Rabbits Reared on the 25% sucrose concentration ration.3.Third group (Pomegranate peel powder) : Twenty (20) Reared on the 25% Grinded Pomegranate peel powder ration only 4.Fourth group (group ІV): Twenty (20) kept on equal amounts of 25% sucrose and Grinded Pomegranate peel concentration powdered rations Blood samples were collected from all animals under experiment monthly for four months, the first one after one month (from ear veins), the second after 2 months of then slaughtering of half of rabbits in each group (Ten rabbits) , the third sample after third month then the last after 4 month’s then slaughtering the remaining ten rabbits Determination of some blood biochemical, parameters as follow:1.Serum total lipids, triacylglycerols, total cholesterol concentration.2.Serum HDL, LDL, VLDL concentration.3.Atherogenic indices (CRR, AC and AI)4.Serum urea, creatinine and glucose levels.5. Serum testosterone, zinc and copper concentrations.6.Liver, kidney and heart concentrations of L-MDA, non enzymatic antioxidant GSH and H2O2. in addition to enzymatic antioxidant enzymes activity (CAT, GST).Also, Liver, kidney and heart tissues were collected for evaluation of: L-MDA, non enzymatic antioxidant GSH and H2O2. in addition to enzymatic antioxidant enzymes activity (CAT, GST).Our results and Statistical analysis revealed the following:1. High sucrose fed ration in rabbits induced hyperlipidemia. As, it significantly increased serum total lipids, TC, TAG, LDL-c while, it significantly decreased HDL-c as compared to control group.2. Treatment of high sucrose fed rabbits with Grinded Pomegranate peel revealed significant decrease in hyperlipidemia. In addition these results revealed that, Grinded Pomegranate peel success in ameliorate the atherogenic effects of high sucrose diet.3.Significant increase in testosterone level in group kept on high sucrose diet, but it decrease in groups treated with Grinded Pomegranate peel 4.The obtained results revealed that, high sucrose diet decrease serum zinc concentration.5.Treatment of high sucrose fed rabbits with Grinded Pomegranate peel revealed significant alleviation in decreasing zinc level.6.The obtained data referred that, significant decrease in blood urea and serum creatinine level in group fed on sucrose plus Grinded Pomegranate peel in compared to other groups after 30 and 60 days of treatment.7.The prolonged high sucrose diet showed significant increase in blood glucose level even after withdrawal time.8.Treatment of high sucrose fed rabbits with Grinded Pomegranate peel revealed significant hypoglycemic effect only after withdrawal time. 9.In heart tissue, the highest values of GSH were noticed in rabbits kept on Grinded Pomegranate peel, while the lowest values were observed in those kept on sucrose. On the other hand, the highest values of MDA and H202 were recorded in sucrose fed group. While the same group possess the lowest values of catalase and GST and the feed of Grinded Pomegranate peel success for extent in increasing the values of there two enzymes. 10.The sucrose feeding only significantly increased kidney GSH, MDA, and H2O2,while it significantly decrease the activity of both catalase and GST level they still less than those in control group. The addition of Grinded Pomegranate peels decreasing the values of MDA and H2O2 towards those of control group.11. In liver tissue of rabbits kept sucrose high diet possess the highest values of hepatic MDA and H2O2, while it possess the lowest levels of hepatic GSH, Catalase and GST . Most of these criteria were greatly improved to these in control group after adding of Grinded Pomegranate peel to sucrose.
