Abstract

A total of 40 female rabbits with average age of 2-3 months were randomly divided into eight equal groups. The first group was kept as healthy negative control group. All rabbits of the other groups were naturally infested with mange. Infested rabbits showed clinical signs of anorexia, anaemia, itching, dandruff and dry crust like lesions on ears, nose, face and around the paws. The second and third groups treated with ivermectin (200μg/kg) injectable and orally respectively. The fourth and fifth groups treated with doramectin (200μg/kg) injectable and orally respectively. The sixth group treated with iverzin® tablets (200μg/kg) orally, while the seventh group treated with pour-on fipronil solution (10mg/Kg), the eighth group was kept without treatment and consider as the positive control group. All treatments were administered in two doses with 7 days interval. The result revealed that, the fifth and six groups show rapid recovery and disappearance of the clinical signs at day 14 and then completely recovery at day 21 post treatment compared with the second, third and fourth groups. In addition, there were significant increases in the weight gain and the final body weight in fifth and six groups as compared to other groups. Additionally, doramectin oral and iverzine groups showed the lowest effect on the liver and kidney function compared with other groups.
It could be concluded that, doramectin oral and iverzine tablets are highly effective against mange infestation in rabbits, while fipronil is contraindicated to be used in rabbits.
