This study is conspicuously a rhetorical structural study of the poetry of Abdullah bin al-Zeba’ra, may Allah be pleased with him, which is considered as an important historical document of the stage of conflict between right and wrong, especially, at the beginning of the Islamic call; Abdullah bin al- Zeba’ra was the first Quraish poet in both the age of ignorance and Islam.
This study aims at answering some questions, including:
First: Did Islam have an effect on the language of Abdullah ibn al-Zeba’ra, its structures, its words, its rhetorical purposes and its poetic condition, or not?
Second: Does Abdullah ibn al-Zeba’ra deserve, despite the loss of most of his poetry, to be called the first Quraish poet in both the age of ignorance and Islam?
Third: Can the modern linguistic study reveal the stylistic, cultural, and social characteristics from which poets derive their purposes and rhetoric images?
Fourth: Do these syntactic structural studies contribute to poetic dictionaries in the flourishing of linguistic studies?
This study is divided into an introduction, the importance of the syntactic studies of poetry, the reasons for choosing the subject, and the methodology used in the study. Besides, I paved the study by talking about Quraish, and the factors made it the most eloquent among Arabs, and then translated to Abdullah Ibn Zeba’ra.
In the first chapter, I spoke about the concept of the structures in the critical and rhetorical heritage, the rhetorical terms corresponding to the structures, the perspectives of both the grammarians and the polygons, and the relation of Arabic structures and eloquence with modern terms such as antiquity, arguments, significance and deliberation.
The second chapter dealt with the informative style in the poetry of Abdullah ibn al-Zeba’ra and the rhetorical purposes in which he came out in his poetry.
The third chapter dealt with the expressive styles in the poetry of Abdullah ibn al-Zeba’ra and its rhetorical purposes.
As for the fourth chapter, it is entitled: Briefness and Redundancy in the Poetry of Abdullah bin Zeba’ra, and made it on two topics: the first: I dealt with the brevity and its types in the poetry of Abdullah, and the second: dealt with the redundancy and its forms in his poetry.
The fifth chapter entitled: Rhetorical figures in the poetry of Abdullah bin Zeba’ra in which I dealt with the term figure and its relationship to the term rhetoric, and the rhetorical figures between truth and metaphor and I detailed in the rhetorical figures in the poetry of Abdullah bin Zeba’ra.
The study concluded with some conclusions and recommendations, including:
First: Islam has a great influence in the poetry of Abdullah ibn al-Zeba’ra and other veteran poets, so it is necessary to study the collection of Quraish poetry.
Second, the emergence of Arabic rhetoric is superior to the origin of modern deliberation; the origin of Arabic rhetoric was and still is to study the Qur’anic style and to illustrate its miraculous, and then the speech of the Arabs from both poetry and prose, while the origin of deliberation was to study the colloquial language or the language of daily use. Then, it was developed.
Third, the structural studies need to be developed and progressed; the science of modern language aims at connecting linguistics with each other in order to complete language studies and elevate it.
