Abstract The present thesis includes preparation, characterization and studying the structural changes of lead-free solder alloys of three sections. Section 1: This section is devoted to investigating the microstructure, thermal, mechanical and electrical behaviors of hypoeutectic, eutectic and hypereutectic of Bi-Ag lead free solder alloys. This section 1 is divided into two parts; First part: hypoeutectic and eutectic of Bi-Ag lead-free solder. Second part: hypereutectic of Bi-Ag lead-free solder. Section 2: This section is devoted to investigating the microstructure, thermal, mechanical and electrical behaviors of Bi-Ag-Tb lead-free solder alloys. Section 3: This section is devoted to investigating the microstructure, thermal, mechanical and electrical behaviors of Bi-Ag-Ho lead-free solder alloys. These solder alloys have been prepared by rapid solidificaton using melt spinning technique. Structural analysis of all the alloys was investigated using X-ray diffraction. The microstructure of the solder alloys was determined using Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM). Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC) was done to find out the thermal properties of the alloys. Dynamic Resonance Technique and Vickers Microhardness were used to find out the mechanical properties, Micro-Ohmmeter was used to study the electrical properties. All the previously mentioned results suggest that rare earth elements leads to improve the physical properties of Bi-Ag lead-free solder alloys. |
