Abstract

This research was designed to study the prevalence of different classes of malocclusion among Kenyan dental students aiming for two things; first to determine the different classes of malocclusion using Angle’s Classification and secondly to compare the gender differences of the findings. All subjects of this study were selected to be students in any year of study, age ranging from eighteen to twenty five years, both males and females, those willing to participate in the study, and those that had not had any previous orthodontic treatment. Our sample consisted of 41 participants meeting the inclusion criteria. Alginate impressions and stone plaster casts were prepared for all the subjects and occlusion was registered in centric relation by wax bites. The prepared study casts of the participants were analyzed for arch form, midline diastema, midline shift, overjet, overbite, molar relationship, canine relationship, open bite, spacing, crowding and Bolton tooth discrepancies. Statistical analysis was carried out using SPSS program(SPSS,2008).Cross –tabulation and Chi square test(SPSS,analysis, descriptive statistics, cross tabs) were used to test the effect of sex on different parameters as well as the relation between prevalence of different parameters
