Abstract

CXCR4 rs2228014 polymorphism had a pro-oncogenic role in cancers, such as renal cell carcinoma, lung cancer, oral cancer, hepatic cancer, acute myeloid leukemia and breast cancer.
The aim of the study was to investigate the association of CXCR4 rs2228014 polymorphism with susceptibility of breast cancer in the studied sample of the Egyptian females. In addition, the association of this polymorphism with the different stages of BC will be investigated. Genotypes of the CXCR4 C/T polymorphism in both healthy control and patient groups were determined in Medical Biochemistry Department, faculty of medicine, Mansoura University by PCR-RFLP method.
Results of this study showed that:
-There was no significant association between CXCR4 rs2228014(C/T) polymorphism and the risk of breast cancer and the different stages of breast cancer in the studied sample.
-The T and C alleles did not considered to be genetic risk factors of breast cancer.
-There was no significant association between different CXCR4 rs2228014 (C/T) polymorphism genotypes and allelotypes on one hand and tumor histology, estrogen and progesterone receptors status on the other hand in the studied patients.
-The mutant TT genotype was more represented in the studied BC group than the wild CC type. This result did not coincide with other studies in different races and this may be due to different genetic backgrounds, environmental factors, lifestyles.
