Abstract

The skin is the largest and most visible organ of the body and the anatomic and physiologic barrier between animal and environment. It provides protection from physical, chemical, and microbiologic injury, and its sensory components perceive heat, cold, pain, pruritus, touch, and pressure. In addition, the skin is synergistic with internal organ systems and thus reflects pathologic processes that are either primary elsewhere or shared with other tissues.
The present work included 2 studies 1st study (epidemiological study) and 2nd study (clinical study).
1- Epidemiological study:
This study was conducted during the 1st year to study the prevalence of different skin disorders and to assess the Odds ratio and Confidence interval of some risk factors related to skin diseases (age, sex, locality, season, skin color, feeding and management practices, work load and deworming program) in 400 draught horses in 5 localities (Dyarb, Abouhammad, Belbeis, Meniaelkamh and Fakous) at EL_Sharkia governorate during the year of the study.
The result of this study revealed that skin diseases were more prevalent in young aged horses, stallions, those present in Fakous and Meniaelkamh, Spring, horses present in the outdoors, horses stabled in stables with dung floors and those with white colored skin than the other horses.
