Abstract Chronic constipation is frequent among children; it is estimated that about 8% of the population in the pediatric age group suffer from chronic constipation at some point in their lives. One of the most common and problematic causes of constipation is Hirschsprung’s disease that requires special attention from clinicians and pathologists as well. The most agreed upon method for diagnosis nowadays is the rectal biopsy, which is considered to be the gold standard through which pathologists play the most important role in confirming or excluding the condition in cases suspected by clinicians to have HD. Another type of specimen encountered by pathologists is the colectomy specimens in which proximal and distal ends can be assessed. |
