Abstract

Hysterectomy is one of the most frequently performed major gynaecological procedures both for benign and malignant conditions of the uterus The most common indications for hysterectomy are symptomatic uterine leiomyomas, abnormal uterine bleeding, endometriosis, and prolapse Hysterectomies are performed vaginally, laparoscopically (total laparoscopic hysterectomy [with or without robotic assistance] or laparoscopically assisted vaginal hysterectomy) or abdominally. The aim of this study was to analyse rates, routes, indications and complications of hysterectomy for benign conditions at Mansoura University main hospital. Our study included 440 patients who admitted to department of gynecology and obstetrics at Mansoura university main hospital for elective hysterectomy for different benign diseases. The study was a descriptive observational study. It is based on the inpatient register to investigate the rate, types, indications and complications of hysterectomy from October 2012 to April 2015. There were 440 patients aged 35 years to 78 years with a mean age±SD of 50.32±7.75. The majority of women who had hysterectomy were in age group 40-49. There were 37cases of vaginal hysterectomy versus 402 case of abdominal hysterectomy, 1 laparoscopically. from the abdominal hysterectomy 353 were TAH, 49 cases SAH, from the total number of abdominal hysterectomy. Bilateral saplingo-oophorectomy done in 325 cases, unilatteral salpingo-oopherectomy.
