Abstract Introduction: Acne vulgaris is a chronic inflammatory disease. It is described as a disease of excess sebum production, formation of comedone, papules and pustules, less frequently, nodules, deep pustules, or pseudocysts and in some cases, is accompanied by scarring. Subjects and Methods: This study was designed to be a comparative cross-sectional study that was carried out on U12 casesU that were selected from the outpatient Dermatology clinic at Ain Shams University Hospitals. The cases were classified into 2 groups according to clinical examination and diagnosis. Results: The current thesis was conducted in the period from November, 2013 to April, 2014. The thesis included 12 cases that were presented with acne lesions. Their age ranged from 14 to 28 year old with a mean of 19 years ± 4.9 SD. Discussion: Acne vulgaris is a chronic inflammatory disease; that is described as a disease of excess sebum production, formation of comedone, papules and pustules. Less commonly, it is characterized by nodules, pseudocysts and may be accompanied by scarring. Summary Acne vulgaris is a chronic inflammatory disease. It is described as a disease of excess sebum production, formation of comedone, papules and pustules, less frequently, nodules, deep pustules, or pseudocysts and in some cases, is accompanied by scarring Conclusion: We conclude that histopathology of well-established inflammatory papules in acne vulgaris show thickend hair follicle, some destructed hair follicles were seen associated with perifollicular inflammatory infiltrate composed of PNL and mononuclear cells Recommendations: There was limitation in the number of the patients, so large number of pateients is recommended to assess the histopathologic differences between acne vulgaris and steroid acne. |
