Abstract

Positioning is an integral part of the care of sick neonates or those with a physical disability and can be used to enhance their speed of recover, promote normal development and prevent deterioration in their condition.Gastric residual volume (GRV)is considered as an objective parameter for gastric emptying and tolerance of feeding.The effect of infant’s position after feeding on gastric residual has been mostly conducted in infants ( 89, 117).This study aimed to determine the effect of changing body position post feeding on gastric residuals of low birth weight infant. A quasi experimental research design was used in the study.The study was conducted at pediatric high risk unit at Tanta University Hospital and pediatric high risk unit at Qutour General Hospital affiliated to the ministry of health.A selective random sample consisted of sixty infants was included in the study. Forty infants from Pediatric high risk unit at Tanta University Hospital and twenty infants from Pediatric high risk unit at Qutour General Hospital affiliated to the ministry of health. The infants were having the following criteria: their weigh less than 2500 gram and more than 1500 gram at birth, Both sex were included, no gastro intestinal diseases that affect digestion,receiving artificial feeding (Powdered artificial baby milk) every 2 hours through nasogastric tube and doesn’t take any medications that increase or decrease gastric motility
