Abstract
4-Hydroxy-8-methyl-2(1H)quinolinone (1) was
prepared and halogenated with phosphon1s oxychloride and/or phosphorus pentabromide to giVe
2,4-dihalo-8 - methylquinolines 2, 3 ,which were used to obtain many new azido, amino, hydrazino,
and mercaptoquinoline, quinolinone and quinolinethione derivatives . Also , some new five membered
heterocycles were synthesized, e.g. pyrazol yl, benzoimidazolyl , benzothiazolyl , triazoly l,
thiadiazolyl , oxadiazolyl as substituents to the quinoline nucleus . Most of the new compounds are
expected to have certain biological actiVIty. All the structures of the new products were verified
on basis of their chemical behaviour , elemental and spectral analyses.
