Abstract Five hundred Women age ranged from 18 to 45 years volunteered by using a random sample from National Nutrition Institute Cairo- Egypt. Sub-sample 20% of participants was chosen to follow a diet to lose weight for 6 consecutive months. Data for this study was accomplished in the period from May 2012 to April 2015. All the studied females were interviewed, they received questionnaires asking about many data as socio- demographic status, food habits, body image perception/desired and anthropometric measurements(height and weight) and physical activity. Dietary assessment was taken by using 24-h dietary recall, food frequency questionnaire. Results: Showed the characteristics of the studied sample demonstrated that nearly half of the sample (46%) aged 20 to less than 30 years. More than half of the sample (54%) were married and (58.6%) of them had family size more than 4 persons(big families).On the other hand, more than half of females (52.6%) were from middle social class and one quarter of them were from either low class or high social class. About (21% ) of the sample had more than 3 children and (37.4% ) had less than 3 children and this match with the literature statement that overweight and obesity increased with increasing the number of pregnancy. There was a high significant difference (p=0.000) between participants marital status and their body image perception .Nearly half of single females (49%) had their body image perception as obese I class, while married women (40.7%) had body image perception as obese II class. The majority of the sample (86.2%) didn’t consume fresh vegetables daily, while only (13.8%) of females consumed fresh vegetables daily. On the other hand more than half of females (51.6%) consumed pickles daily. About (47%) of females consumed soft drinks ≤ 7 times per week. About (40%) of the studied sample consumed 4 ≤ 6 big cups of water daily and about one third (37%) consumed 7≤ 10 big cups daily. Only (7%) of females consumed > 10 big cups daily. |
