Abstract

Disorders of the major salivary glands represent a heterogeneous group comprising infectious, autoimmune and neoplastic disorders. This study was designed to investigate the role of ultrasound in the diagnosis of salivary gland disorders. This study included 33 patients with different clinical signs and symptoms suggestive of salivary gland diseases i.e. salivary gland swelling, pain especially before eating. These disorders could be classified into two pathological groups; neoplastic (25 cases) and inflammatory (8 cases).All patients subjected to full history taking, clinical examination, radiological assessment that includes ultrasound examination, color doppler ultrasound in case of tumors. Analyzing the ultrasound results by two experienced radiologist was done and provided important information about the the size, borders, shape , echogenicity, homogeneity, presence of calcification and degree of vascularity in case of tumors.
