Abstract

Traditional scheduling techniques exhibit major drawbacks, when applied to scheduling construction projects that are characterized as repetitive. Hence, repetitive projects require a special scheduling technique. Scheduling and optimizing repetitive projects is a complex problem. There are various considerations pertinent to repetitive scheduling, which have not been addressed in a complete model. Specialized models were developed to solve particular subclasses of the general problem. Also, due to complexity of the problem, the suggested systems were over simplified or too complicated.
This Research aims to develop a new model for project managers to optimize non-serial networks with non-typical activities which are vertically repeated and contains non repeated activities. Such model will utilize a non-traditional technique for optimization. The main objectives are:
 Development of a time optimization model based on Line of Balance technique (LOB) for vertical repetitive projects. Optimized model will take into consideration the realities of repetitive scheduling in addition to maintain logical relationships for each repetitive unit, satisfy skeleton , non-skeleton, and downward constraint across vertical repetitive works, and consider non-repetitive foundation activities at vertical repetitive projects.
 Choices of appropriate technology and methods of construction for each activity in the project which lead to the optimum project duration.
 Application of a real-applied project in order to show applicability and practicality of the developed model is considered.
