Abstract

The aim of this work was to evaluate the effects of topical application of curcumin gel in management of dysplastic oral diseases.
In this clinical study, 16 patients diagnosed clinically as Premalignant according to WHO classification and microscopically by incisional biopsy as mild to moderate epithelial dysplasia were selected from Oral Medicine, Oral diagnosis and Oral Radiology department in Faculty of Dentistry, Alexandria University.
Patients were applied curcumin topically once / day for 6 weeks.the patients were instructed not to eat or drink after application of the treatment
All patients were examined and re-evaluated into pain scores (VAS) the every day for 10 days after beginning of the treatment and at the end of treatment (6 weeks), the VAS decrease was statistically significant in comparison to baseline value.
Size scores evaluated at one day/week for 6 weeks. at the end of treatment, after 6 weeks the lesion size scores decrease was statistically significant in comparison to baseline value
The results of this present study revealed that topically administered curcumin gel was very effective in reduction of pain and lesion size of dysplastic oral diseases.
from the results of this study, it was found that curcumin gel is a safe and effective treatment option for dysplastic oral diseases.
