Abstract

The present study was conducted to throw light on in-vivo antibacterial efficacy of florfenicol on Nile catfish (Clarias lazera) experimentally infected with Aeromonas hydrophila. Also, to investigate the immunostimulatory efficacies of levamisole and ginseng on the cellular and humoral innate immune responses of infected Clarias lazera. Moreover, the histopathological changes in gills, muscles, liver, kidneys and spleen were also studied.
In our study, a total number of 150 healthy Clarais lazera with average body weight of (150-200 gm) were randomly allocated into 5 equal groups (each one contained 30 fish) which divided in 3 replicates per group as follows:
The first group (G1) (Control group): Fish of this group were served as non infected non treated which were fed on basal diet only.
The second group (G2) (Infected non treated): Fish of this group were inoculated intraperitoneally (I/p) with, 0.2 ml of 24 hr broth cultures of Aeromonas hydrophila and kept without medication.
The third group (G3) (Infected treated with florfenicol): Fish of this group were experimentally infected similarly and treated with therapeutic dose of florfenicol (0.5 mg/L) as a bath treatment for 5 successive days.
The fourth group (G4) (Infected treated with florfenicol & levamisole): Fish of this group were experimentally infected.
