Abstract

Message Subject:Using of natural materials for reducing some inorganic element in raw and industrial water
Content of the message: the message included three chapters arranged as follows:
Chapter I: Introduction
It is an introduction included some work from scientific heritage in the field of treatment and clarification in general and the use of natural materials in particular, clarification of water in addition to a comprehensive presentation of the materials currently used in water treatment as provided included on the following topics:
1. Water and Environment.
2. Water pollution.
3. Water clarification using coagulation materials.
4. Floc formation process (assembly suspended matter in the water).
5. The process of sedimentation.
6. The impact of the materials currently used in the clarification on the environment and human health.
7. Clotting environment-friendly materials.
8. Starch as clotting friendly environment.
9. Cationic starch.
10. Starch is used to remove microorganismsfrom water.
Chapter II: The Experimental
This part included the method of preparation of cationic modified starch extracted from the break rice as well as measurements and tests conducted during the work.
Chapter III: Results and Discussion
It has included
- Discuss the preparation of the use of cationic starch rice as flocculants in water purification:
In this part discussed the cationic modified rice starch derivative was prepared by a technique based on dry method by the reaction of rice starch (separated from a broken rice as normal waste) with 2,3-chlorohydroxypropyl triethylammonium chloride in alkaline medium. Product obtained was characterized by FT-IR, thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA) and elemental analysis (C, H, N). In addition to the evaluation in the field of removal some heavy metals from water using atomic absorption device (AAS).
The result showed that the use of cationic starch previous record in the way water purification led to the elimination of most of the suspending material and reduce the percentage of colloidal silica and organic substances in water in addition to the removal of heavy metals. The best estimate value of pH and deposition of suspending materials in water has been done. It was found that the water clarification process be improved by increasing the pH in the range of (6.5 to 10.5) and that the best deposition time is 15 minutes.
- Evaluate the use of modified rice starch in drinking water purification:
Discusses this part the use of cationic rice starch to purify drinking water and remove turbidity of water with a comparative study used with aluminum sulfate. It has been conducting practical application on the Nile water taken from the west of Cairo area natural waters. This substance was evaluated through the work of a full simulation of water clarification in laboratory. This substance was used individually and compared with aluminum sulfate in water clarification. The results showed that the use of modified starch containing the amine groups works to clot suspending materials and remove the minerals from natural water under test. The use of this substance led to purify water well and when mixed with aluminum sulfate led to reduce the use of aluminum sulfate by 45%.
- Evaluate the use of modified rice starch in water purification for industrial purposes:
This section discusses the use of cationic rice starch in industrial water purification by remove the turbidity of water with a comparative study to be used with ferric chloride alone and ferric chloride and calcium hydroxide together. It has been conducting practical application on the Nile water taken from the west of Cairo area natural waters. This substance was evaluated through the work of a full simulation of water clarification in laboratory. This substance was used individually and compared with ferric chloride alone and ferric chloride with calcium hydroxide together in water clarification. The results showed that the use of modified starch containing the amine groups works to clot suspending materials and remove the minerals from natural water under test. The use of this substance with ferric chloride alone or with both of ferric chloride and calcium hydroxide to purify water well and reduced the use of ferric chloride by 50% when used together for clarification industrial water.
