Abstract

how Kennedy uses symbolism in depicting the mulatto’s issues of dual identity, self-hatred, and desire for assimilation:
Chapter One handles a symbolical analysis of Funnyhouse of a Negro.
In this play, Kennedy uses black and white symbolic selves to depict the heroine’s dual identity
Chapter Two deals with the symbols of Kennedy’s The owl Answer she uses an owl symbol to depict her feelings of self-hatred and dehumanization .
Chapter Three discusses Kennedy’s A Rat’s Mass. In this play, Kennedy presents the issue of torn identity by employing a rat symbol.
