Abstract Obesity is an important factor in causing various health problems, including coronary heart disease, osteoarthritis, type 2 diabetes and different types of cancers .Obesity has also considered as a major risk factor for developing chronic kidney disease (CKD). Using natural product may diminish many health problems, so the main objective of this study was to investigate the effect of prolonged intake of Bauhinia variegata extract (BEX) on the risk of developing kidney disease KD in male rats with dietary- induced obesity. Male Wister rats (170±5g) were fed high fat diet (HFD) daily for 12 weeks for induction of obesity, while Bauhinia variegata leaves extract (BEX) (40 mg/100g b. wt) was given orally for the same duration. After the acclimation period, rats were randomly divided into five groups (6 animals each). Group-1-(control): Rats of this group were fed a standard diet, without any treatments. Group-2-(vehicle): Rats were fed a standard diet and received 1% Tween 80 orally as vehicle at dose (0.1 ml/100g b.wt). Group-3-(BEX): Rats were fed a standard diet and received freshly prepared (BEX) orally at dose of 40 mg/100g b.wt dissolved in 1% Tween-80. Group-4- (HFD): Rats were fed high fat diet (HFD) contains 68% powdered normal diet, 30% melted animal abdominal fat and 2% extra pure cholesterol. Group-5-( HFD+ BEX):Rats were fed HFD and received BEX orally at the same way and doses as described in the two above groups. All animal groups were received their respective treatment daily for 12 weeks. |
