Abstract The aim of the study was to evaluate the impact of post stroke home health care sessions on patient’s condition and family caregiver’s burden. Thirty stroke patients and their family caregivers were included in the study as a convenient sample. Quasi -experimental design was utilized to attain the aim of the study. Six tools were used to collect the pertinent data three times in the patient\s residence after their discharge from El Minya University Hospital. These tools included sociodemographic characteristics sheet, environment assessment sheet, pre-posttests, Barthel index of activities of daily living, list of patients’ complications and caregiver burden scale. The study results revealed that the level of knowledge and practice of caregivers improved regarding stroke and care of stroke patients. It was found that, the burden of the caregivers was moderate during the three intervals assessment of the study. Less patient’s complications were found on patients whose caregivers has high levels of knowledge and practice. The activity of daily living (ADL) score among stroke patients was improved from severe disability to moderate disability. Based on the study results, it was recommended that proper discharge plan for stroke patients is crucial in addition to home health care training for caregivers. |
