Abstract Urotheuthis duvauceli is a demersal cephalopod and its range extends from Indian Ocean periphery, including the Red Sea and the Arabian Sea, extending eastwards from Mozambique to the South China Sea and Philippines Sea, northward to Taiwan (Roper et al. 1984). It is abundant both in the Egyptian Red Sea coast and Gulf of Suez. U. duvauceli appeared first in the Suez Canal in 1998 (fishermen observation). The first detailed study of different biological aspects of this species in the Suez Canal is described based on monthly samples from Deversoir, on Suez Canal obtained during the period between January 2010 and March 2011. All measurements were taken after the freezing and defrosting of the specimens in order to obtain full relaxation of all body parts. Specimens were dissected by cutting along the ventral mantle to reveal the internal organs to determine the sex and the maturity stage. Allometric growth was clearly noticed for this species in all seasons. For both sexes in the four seasons, the slopes of the regression lines for several body parts (mantle width, mantle thickness, head length, head |
