المستخلص Researcher name: Marwa Fathe Awad Ali Elsharawy Title: Successful aging and its relationship to some psycho-social variables in Elderly . This study aims to Discovering the relationship between successful aging in elders and some psycho-social variables in Elderly (Perceived social support, the Big five factors of personality ( Neuroticism - Extraversion – Agreeableness – openness – Conscientiousness) and Coping strategies in the elderly ) and some demographic variables [ age – the Social (economic cultural) level – the health status – the educational level- Employment Status- gender - Marital Status].the sample consisted of ( 130 ) aged people ( 72 males and 58 females) some of them were still working and some another retired , their aged ranged from ( 60) years to ( 84 ) years . The Tools of the study The researcher has used the following instruments: 1- The scale of successful aging (prepared by researcher). 2- The scale of Perceived social support among the elderly (prepared by researcher). 3- The scale of coping strategies in the elderly (prepared by researcher). 4- The of List the five factors of personality (prepared by Costa& Maccare , Modify by researcher) 5- The Perceived health status of elderly person form, prepared by researcher. 6- The social (economic cultural) form, prepared by Samia El Qattan, 1982 (Modify by researcher) . Results: There was statistically significant negative relationship between successful aging in elderly and Perceived social support, the five factors of personality, coping strategies in the elderly and Perceived health status. There were statistically significant differences in successful aging between the working and retired elders, elders who has high educational level and the elders who has low educational level, elders who has high social (economic cultural) level and the elders who has low social (economic cultural) level. While There were no statistically significant differences in successful aging between the sample of younger elders (60- 69) and the sample older elderly (70 and more) and the sample of single elders and the sample of married elders. |
