Abstract Patients have a right to expect to be safe and protected from harm during their medical care. Anaesthesia as a medical specialty is particularly concerned with the safety of the patient who is undergoing a surgical procedure in or out the operating room. The tools to reach Patient safety are Incident reporting and how to analyze (humans, machines or equipments), Checklists, Safe system design and Communication protocoles. In addition, there must be an open exchange of information, education between the anaesthesist and the patient on options and alternatives for care, and assisting the patient in making a decision that is consistent with his/her values, and may simply refer to a legal procedure that protects physicians and medical centers from litigation. Also, all anesthesiologists should continue their education in the practice of anesthesia, pain management, perioperative care, and resuscitation, Anesthesia is a medical procedure modified throughout the years due to technological and pharmacological innovations, being reasonable to consider that techniques used nowadays are not the same used in the past. Preparing a patient for anaesthesia requires an understanding of the patient’s pre-operative status, the nature of the surgery and the anaesthetic techniques required for surgery, as well as the risks that a particular patient may face during this time. Every patient’s airway should be thoroughly assessed before anesthesia and the results of the assessment should be recorded, and the anaesthetist should have a planned strategy for managing the airways and be prepared to execute it. The key steps in preparing your theatre are checking the anaesthetic machine, Preparing and checking your basic anaesthetic equipment and those for difficult intubation or resuscitation and Preparing your drugs for induction and those to use in case of an emergency. The anesthesiologist is responsible for monitoring the patient receiving care and ensuring that appropriate monitoring equipment is available and working correctly, Monitoring guidelines for standard patient care apply to all patients receiving general anesthesia, regional anesthesia, or intravenous sedation. It is the responsibility of the anaesthesiologist providing care to ensure that the anaesthetizing location ( remote locations ) in which that care is delivered meets all applicable standards |
