Abstract Flexible endoscopy was developed 35 years ago. The advantages of this technology are several but one serious disadvantage is the liability of exposure to infection. This study was aiming to evaluate the effect of a training program on nurse’s performance related to infection control measures in endoscopy department. The study was conducted at the endoscopy departments in Suez Canal University Hospital. The sample was composed of (36) nurses working at medical, surgical, urology, and obstetric departments. The tools (self administrated questionnaire sheet, observational check list, training program. Nurse’s knowledge and practice was found to be unsatisfactory in the pretest. There were statistically significant improvements immediately after and throughout the program phases. Given this it is recommended to provide equal opportunity for nurses attend training program about infection control. The study recommended A periodic educational program should be applied for health team workers to increase their knowledge about infection, infection control measures, for protection of nurses and patients. |
