Abstract

Among the most important chemical reactions in higher plants are the Are now recognized: the C3 pathway, the C4 pathway and the CAM performingplants.Phosphoenolpyruvate Carboxylase (PEP carboxylase) plays an important role in the carboxylation of PEP to form oxaloacetate in various organisms including algae and higher plants. Recent comparative studies of PEP carboxylase from higher plants have revealed a diversity of metabolic roles of
the enzyme in C3, C4 and CAM plants. White mustard (Sinapis alba) was the experimental plant in this investigation; it is a C4 plant from the Cruciferae.
