Abstract

The present work was carried out to determine the isolation& identification of some enteric bacteria that cause diarrhoea in cows and buffaloes .
A total number of 240 cows and buffaloes of different ages and sex (40 diarrhoeic buffaloe – calves ,10 diarrhoeic cow – calves, 20 apparently healthy buffaloe-calves, 15 apparently healthy cow – calves, 70 diarrheic adult buffaloes , 20 diarrheic adult cows , 40 apparently healthy buffaloes and 25 apparently healthy adult cows) the ages of buffaloe and cow – calves ranged from 2 – 8 months.
The aim of this work was isolation and identification of Enterobacteriaceae from diarrhoeic and apparently healthy cows and buffaloes of different ages and sex .
Also to determine the sensitivity of the isolated Enterobacteriaceae to various antibacterial agents. The results showed the following :
1- Enterobacteriaceae was isolated from diarrhoeic animals in 92.9% and from apparently healthy animals in 63 %. The percentage of positive samples to total number of examined animals was 80.4%.
2- The isolation rate from diarrhoeic animals at both abattoirs was 80 % and that of apparently healthy animals was 40% .
3- The isolation rate of diarrhoeic animals at the clinical vet . hospital was 100% and that of apparently healthy was 52% .
