Abstract This investigation was aimed to use two medicine plants (purslane and white mulberry leaves), for decreasing triglyceride, blood sugar, cholesterol and obesity. The results of the chemical composition of the tested materials revealed that purslane and white mulberry leaves were found to be a high source of protein and which contain a high level of hypoglycemic and hypocholesterolemic amino acids such as lysine and arginine. In addition, purslane and white mulberry leaves were high source of phenolic compounds, essential fatty acid and essential amino acids. The results showed that purslane and white mulberry leaves could be added to replace up to 5, 10 and 20% of high-fat diet respectively. Experimental high-fat rats were fed for 8 weeks on the high-fat diet except normal control (G1) was fed on basal diet. Obese rats fed on diets substituted in a part with 5, 10 or 20% purslane and white mulberry leaves and 10 or 2o % mixed purslane and white mulberry leaves the results showed that supplementing the hyperlipidemia-producing diets with the two additive materials and mixed purslane and white mulberry leaves had significant reduction in serum glucose, lipid profile (cholesterols, triglyceride, LDL and VLDL-cholesterol). Meanwhile, HDL cholesterol and hemoglobin increased with all treatments, significant decrease in ALT, AST, urea, uric acid, creatinine and total biliurbin values, in respect to positive control were also observed. |
