Abstract

Malignant tumors and approximately 7% of all urinary tract malignancies in U.S.men (Parker et al., 1997). Bilharzial bladder carcinoma is very common in Egypt, and in some African and Asian countries. It is considered the most common cancer among Egyptian patients, accounting for 32% of all malignant diseases presenting to, the national cancer institute, Cairo University (Sherif and Ibrahim, 1987) or 26.4% (Mokhtar, 1991).Transitional cell carcinoma represent the commonest histologic type in western countries and United States (presenting in about 95%of cases) (Pode , 1984).Carcinoma in bilharzial bladder is most commonly of squamous cell type presenting in (75%) of cases, followed by transitional type(16%) adenocarcinoma in (5.8%) and undifferentiated carcinoma in 2.3% (El-Bolkainy et al., 1981).Radical cystectomy with urinary diversion is only curative modality so far identified, operable patients have overall 5 years survival rates between 27-39%, local control following surgery alone is about 50% (Ghoneim et al., 1976).Adding postoperative radiotherapy has a significant impact on treatment outcome of carcinoma of bilharzial bladder. It succeeded in improving both local control and overall survival rates significantly(Zaghloul et al., 1986, 1992). In preliminary study by Gad El-Mawla et al., the efficacy of using epidoxorubicin (given twice preoperatively and 4 times after radical surgery at 21 days intervals, as 120mg/m2 IV p.
